Wu Style Tai Chi

Wu style Tai Chi is an exercise, martial art and moving meditation. The benefits of practicing Tai Chi are numerous: improves concentration, improves physical and mental balance, and decreases stress levels. It is a martial art that empowers the practioner with confidence in defending oneself. Please wear loose clothing and bring a small rug or mat to work on.

How to Tap into your Inner Guidance - Intro

Regardless of what you call it, "intuition” or "gut feeling" we all have an Inner Guidance System. We use it to help us make decisions. I offer three short workshops in a fun, relaxed atmosphere that will assist you in finding an Inner Guidance tool that you are comfortable with. Come out to the introduction night where you will receive tons of information and a sneak peek at the three classes that will follow.

  • How to use Muscle Testing for Guidance- - Areas covered: What is muscle testing (based on Kinesiology)/ Various ways to muscle test/ Which method is best for you to use/ How to ask effective questions/ Why hydration is important.

Pink Ribbon Program

The Pink Ribbon Program is a pilates-based exercise program designed for breast cancer survivors who are on the road to recovery. The program will help stretch and strengthen the shoulder, chest, back and abdominal muscles. It is open to all breast cancer survivors, whether the surgery was 8 weeks ago or 10 years ago.

Benefits:

  • Helps regain strength and mobility in affected shoulder and arm
  • Enhances energy levels
  • Improves sleep and alleviates fatigue
  • Enhances physical and mental well-being
  • Provides rehabilitation from surgeries including mastectomy, lumpectomy, lymph node removal and reconstructive procedures

The program consists of 2 classes / week, 45 minutes each. The exercises progress though 4 phases over a 6-week period. The progression from one phase to the next will depend on how you are feeling. Everyone is different and heals at her/his own pace. The program is intended to work in conjunction with your doctor’s recommendations, or as follow-up to your physiotherapy program.

Horticulture Series

*Instructor: Todd McClean - has a Degree in Horticulture and has been the owner of Pembina River Nurseries & Garden Center Drayton Valley for 34 years.

  • Container planting (Theory– no hands on): This course will guide you in design and techniques. Take home some pre-planned container outlines!
    Session 1: Feb. 2
  • Pruning in Alberta: This will show you when and how to prune trees and shrubs. Take home a book on this sent out by the Alberta government.

  • Tree and shrub Planting: Soil prep and proper technique on how and where to plant. Look at new varieties and talk about changing climates and how it effects the zoning of trees and plants.

  • Landscape Basics: How to add color to your tree and shrub beds. What styles are available to us and how to use them.
    *Session 4: Feb. 14
  • Weed and Insect control: Environmentally safe controls that are new to our area. Find out what’s coming to help with control of these problems.

  • Annuals and Perennials: Pros and cons of both.
