Up Skills for Work helps learners develop key employability skills through free workshops.  Topics include :

Motivation, Attitude, Accountability, Presentation, Teamwork, Time Management, Adaptability, Stress Management and Confidence.

Soft skills help workers to be adaptable and motivated throughout their whole employment and as they move into new roles.  In other words, they lay the foundation for a strong and flexible workforce and for happy, fulfilled workers.

Up Skills for Work focuses on key employability skills that hiring managers look for.

GED Prep Program

Free for qualified applicants!

General Equivalency Diploma:

This flexible learning format allows students to learn strategies to prepare for writing the GED exam. Students focus on developing and improving their writing, reading, science, social studies, and math skills. Students also practice various GED assessment tests to help them feel more comfortable in a timed testing environment. 

This class is designed to help you prepare for your GED exam, or the Alberta General Equivalency Diploma (Grade 12).   Topics include Reading, Writing, Socials, Science and Math. 8 week course through NorQuest College, with free tutoring provided by Drayton Valley & District Community Learning Association.

Microsoft Word

$150/level

Level 1 - Participants learn to use Word and its various screens, toolbars and menus, by practicing document creation, editing, formatting, printing and various time-saving techniques.

Level 2 - Customizing your Word environment, such as toolbars, AutoCorrect and AutoText, numbering formats, creating styles and working with tables and columns.  Pre-requisite – Word Level 1

Level 3:  Topics covered will include: customizing Word options, mail merge, labels and envelopes, advanced headers and footers, templates and forms. Pre-requisite Word Level 2.

Microsoft Excel

$150/level

Level 1 - Participants will learn to identify the elements of the Excel workspace, enter and edit data, enter formulas and functions, save, open and create workbooks, manipulate cell ranges, format sheet appearances, print, and manipulate the display of workbooks.

Level 2 - Participants will learn advanced workbook features, including range names, working with multiple sheets, linking data, and 3-D referencing. Participants will learn how to create more advanced functions and macros and customize the toolbar.  Pre-requisite - Excel Level 1

Level 3: Participants will learn advanced functions such as COUNT, COUNTIF, SUMIF. You will also be introduced to pivot tables, cell protection, freezing panes, worksheet protection, and much more. Pre-requisite- Excel level 2

Microsoft Powerpoint

Participants will learn: Powerpoint basics, creating and editing a presentation, additional formatting techniques, getting ready to print, drawing and objects.

Basic Bookkeeping

$149/level

You'll learn the basics of double-entry bookkeeping, as well as how to analyze and record financial transactions. You'll get hands-on experience with handling accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll procedures, sales taxes, and various common banking activities. We'll cover all the bases, from writing checks to preparing an income statement and closing out accounts at the end of each fiscal period.

Accounting Software Training

$249 / level

SAGE Simply Accounting Level 1:  

Teaches you how to perform daily accounting tasks in the General Ledger, Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable and Payroll.  This course is intended for someone who will primarily be doing data entry.

SAGE Simply Accounting Level 2:

Introduces some of the more advanced functions and capabilities of Sage 50 Accounting. It is designed for computer users who are already familiar with accounting with work experience in the basic operations of Sage 50 Premium Accounting and/or have completed Level 1.

Quickbooks Level 1:

Intuit’s QuickBooks focuses on accounting fundamentals and teaches core concepts needed for typical daily business transactions. Practical hands-on exercises are used to provide the student with a valuable skill set that can be applied to everyday life. They include: setting up a company, entering transactions to the general ledger, generating reports and processing receivables and payables.

 


Quickbooks Level 2:

A continuation of basic features for daily accounting tasks using QuickBooks and will introduce some of the more advanced functions and capabilities of QuickBooks. Students will look at how to create company files, and deal with more advanced tasks for receivables, payables, inventory and payroll.

Basic Computer Classes

Do you need help with everyday computer skills?  We can help you with one-on-one or small group classes where you will learn how to manage files, send and receive emails, save and send attachments, photo basics, and internet searches.  Lots of practical tips to get you over that fear of pressing the wrong button! 

This is a class for new computer users.  You will learn to feel comfortable working with your operating system while acquiring tips and tricks for customizing your computer, managing your files and folders and navigating the Internet.

Basic iPads for Seniors

iPads for Seniors will teach you the basic functions of using this fun technology!  Learn how to open and close apps, take pictures, search the internet, and more!  Bring your own iPad, or come and learn on ours before you decide to buy one for yourself!

One-on-One tutoring is available for computers!  Contact us to schedule an assessment with our Coordinator.

Refund Policy

Our classes and programs only run if we have sufficient registrations to cost-recover.  As a non-profit organization, we aim to provide learning opportunities that are a reasonable cost for learners, while providing quality instruction.  In order to ensure sufficient time to manage instructors, classroom bookings and materials, classes are non-refundable within 10 days of a class start date, except where:
 

- a course is cancelled or rescheduled

- a learner provides a letter from a health practitioner

 

A full refund will be given if withdrawal from a class takes place at least 10 days before the start of the class.   Class fees are transferrable to another person if you cannot attend for whatever reason.
