Learning English as a second language is much different than learning as a native English speaker. These programs are not just about grammar, spelling and vocabulary. Our ESL Learning Coaches bring fun and friendly learning into the classroom, and teach about things like culture, money, and living life in Canada. Our English Language programs are designed to help learners who are new to the English Language.
If you are new to the English language and looking to improve your English skills for work, citizenship, education or just to gain confidence with the language, we are here to help.
It is important to meet with our ESL Coordinator to determine which program would suit you best. Our Coordinator can let you know dates and time of programs available. Please call our office or stop by to arrange an assessment.
New! ECSF Grant 2020
Supporting Newcomers with Digital Education and Online Access
We are pleased to announce this collaboration between the Drayton Valley Multicultural Association and Drayton Valley & District Community Learning Association. This grant is supported by the Government of Canada's Emergency Community Support Fund and Drayton Valley Community Foundation.
We are excited to offer this new program to local newcomers and immigrants to our community.
This program will allow us to offer ESL instruction virtually, as well as provide a number of newcomers with an appropriate device to access online learning opportunities, support and resources due to COVID-19 isolation.
We are taking applications from adults who are in need of a Chromebook to participate in online learning or access information online, and;
have immigrated to our community from another country,
have limited financial resources, and
are isolated due to COVID-19.
You must fill out an application to be reviewed by a selection committee. A standard Alberta Income Threshold guide is used to determine eligibility. Preference will be given to those who do not have a device in their household suitable for online access. A limited number of Chromebooks are available.
All applications will remain confidential.
Candidates will be selected according to the following intake schedule, or until all devices have been issued, whichever comes first:
Intake 1 - October 15, 2020
Intake 2 - December 10, 2020
Intake 3 - February 10, 2021
Applications are also available at:
Drayton Valley & District Community Learning Association
4743 -46 Street (Rotary House)
Drayton Valley Municipal Library / Town of Drayton Valley office
5120 - 52 Street
Please hand in your application at Community Learning when completed.
