Haunted Fun Casino + Live Auction

This fundraiser event helps us continue to provide literacy and learning opportunities to adults in Drayton Valley & Brazeau County area at little to no cost to the learner.  Since 1978, we have been supporting adults in Drayton Valley and Brazeau County to improve basic literacy skills through tutoring and face-to-face learning opportunities, including classes, workshops and individual support. Without these crucial skills, many adults are unemployed or underemployed, living below poverty, and struggling with daily life.  We fully support the learning goals of these adults, by mentoring them through whatever stage of learning they are in. We also provide supports such as study materials, transportation and referrals to other community services, and a welcoming safe space to allow them to fully reach their potential.  We believe that all adults have the ability to experience success through learning if encouraged and supported in these ways.

Many barriers exist for adult learners: financial, social, transportation, learning impairments as well as trying to juggle work and family commitments.  Our organization is committed to reducing these barriers to ensure the success of every adult whom we work with. 

The impact of improving an adult's literacy levels is far-reaching.  Literacy programs increase an individual's confidence and motivate adults to want to make improvements to their lives.  This can increase the quality of social relationships.  We've seen many of our learners overjoyed about new possibilities ahead of them when achieving success in one of our programs.  Suddenly, they feel that they are able to reach goals that once seemed impossible.  By working closely with community partners, we ensure we are meeting the needs of learners and providing access to a safe and welcoming space, affordable programming, and learner support services. Through this work, our learners are able to build their confidence, gain new skills, persevere towards their goals, and fulfil their potential.
