Pre-Requisite Information:

In order for you to get the most out of the following computer classes, users should have the following experience:

  • Basic Computer Knowledge (opening/closing/saving files and programs)

  • Navigating Windows 10, Basic keyboarding and mouse skills, Printing

  • Basic email knowledge, including contacts, attachments, forwarding and replying to emails

Accounting Software Additional Pre-Requisites:

  • Understand basic bookkeeping concepts (Debits/Credits, Assets, Liability, Chart of Accounts, etc

Microsoft Word - 2019 version

Level 1: To Be Announced
Participants learn to use Word and its various screens, toolbars and menus, by practicing document creation, editing, formatting, printing and various time-saving techniques.

Level 2: To Be Announced
Customizing your Word environment, such as toolbars, AutoCorrect and AutoText, numbering formats, creating styles and working with tables and columns.  Pre-requisite – Word Level 1

Level 3: To Be Announced

Topics covered will include: mail merge, labels and envelopes, advanced headers and footers/sections, templates, tracking changes, pictures and macros (time permitting). Prerequisite Word Level 2.

Microsoft Excel - 2019 version

$165 per level

Level 1: April 13, 2022 9 am - 4 pm
Learn to identify the elements of the Excel workspace, enter, edit and format data, create formulas and functions (SUM, AVERAGE, MIN, MAX, COUNT), and control print settings. Tons of timesavers to be had, even if you’ve been using Excel for years.

Level 2:  April 20, 2022 9 am - 4 pm
Learn more advanced workbook features including tables, graphs, multiple sheets, and linking data. Create VLOOKUP, IF and other functions. You must be familiar with the basics of Excel and have created basic formulas to benefit from this class or have taken Excel Level 1.

Level 3: April 27, 2022 9 am - 4 pm

Participants will learn advanced functions such as COUNTIF and SUMIF. You will also be introduced to pivot tables, filtering, cell protection, freezing panes, worksheet protection, subtotals, data validation and much more. Prerequisite- Excel level 2. Participants should be comfortable creating formulas.

Basic Bookkeeping

Basic Bookkeeping is an introductory theory course perfect for anyone wanting to understand the basics of double-entry bookkeeping. Participants will learn basic bookkeeping terminology, processes and will begin to understand the generally accepted concepts of bookkeeping. This class will prepare you for any software-based bookkeeping classes or manual bookkeeping.

Desktop Basic & Advanced

Learn to utilize your Sage 50® accounting software to manage your business accounting needs. Topics include basic and advanced bookkeeping topics as well as invoicing, accounts payable, managing accounts receivables, GST, account reconciliations, customizing templates, basic and advanced financial reporting, job costing, budgeting, inventory management, creating letters and database management features.

Desktop Payroll

Learn to utilize the payroll module of the Sage 50 Desktop program. This hands-on course includes information on how to setup employees, and the modifying the payroll settings, add income and deduction types, create ROEs and T4s as well as process the payroll liabilities. Basic information on AB Payroll Regulations is also included.

Quickbooks Cloud Accounting

Intuit’s QuickBooks focuses on accounting fundamentals and teaches core concepts needed for typical daily business transactions. Practical hands-on exercises are used to provide the student with a valuable skill set that can be applied to everyday life. They include: setting up a company, entering transactions to the general ledger, generating reports and processing receivables and payables.

Level 2: To Be Announced
A continuation of basic features for daily accounting tasks using QuickBooks and will introduce some of the more advanced functions and capabilities of QuickBooks. Students will look at how to create company files, and deal with more advanced tasks for receivables, payables, inventory and payroll.

Facebook 101

Learn how to navigate the Facebook platform to use Marketplace, Business Pages, Groups and Messenger to get the most out of your Facebook account.  

Pre-requisites: Basic Computer knowledge and an existing Facebook account.  Participants may bring their own devices if desired. 

Google Workspace

A three day interactive course of learning how to use these Google Apps:

Calendar, Gmail, Drive, Docs, Team Drive, Sheets and Forms.

Become more productive, share files and folders, coordinate calendar and events, create forms & much more! This program is suitable for anyone wanting to know more about how these popular google applications work for both personal and professional use.

Internet access is required. If you do not have access to a computer or the internet please let us know and we will do our best to make accommodations.  

Pre-requisites:  Basic Computer knowledge

Instructor: Training provided by the University of Alberta Technology Training Centre.

All registrants of our classes are required to be 18 years or older to attend, and agree that they meet all pre-requisites for the class listed.  Registration is not complete until payment is made in full. 

COVID-19 Screening:  We are asking anyone who is visiting our site in person to screen themselves for COVID-19 symptoms prior to entering our location, for the health and safety of all of our staff and learners. If you have any symptoms or have recently travelled, we ask that you DO NOT visit us in person at this time.


To keep everyone safe, we are limiting class sizes, providing sanitizer in all rooms and offices, and asking learners and staff to wear masks where social distancing isn't possible.

refund policy

Our classes and programs only run if we have sufficient registrations to cost-recover.  As a non-profit organization, we aim to provide learning opportunities that are a reasonable cost for learners, while providing quality instruction.  In order to ensure sufficient time to manage instructors, classroom bookings and materials, classes are non-refundable within 10 days of a class start date, except where:

- a course is cancelled or rescheduled

- a learner provides a letter from a health practitioner


A full refund will be given if withdrawal from a class takes place at least 10 days before the start of the class.   Class fees are transferrable to another person if you cannot attend for whatever reason.
